Course Objectives To define the concept of disaster resilience with its components and parameters
To discuss the process and the efficiency level of community awareness programs improving risk communication and enhancing public participation
In the process of risk management, to define resilience strategies and to learn implementation tools.
Course Description Urban and regional development, sustainability, vulnerability, concept of resilience and assessment parameters, risk communication, risk perception, public participation, public/private partnership, investments, roles and responsibilities, legal framework, mitigation plans, assessment
of resilience level in the frame of risk management cycle, local and national strategies in integration of resilience through development plans, evaluation of community resilience programs
Course Outcomes To analyze the concept of disaster resilience with an inter-disciplinary approach
To define resilience parameters at different scales and sectors
To discuss disaster resilient models developed at international scale and to define different
approaches according to country’s features
In the process of risk management, to define actors, to reveal conflicts and possible co-operationsamong actors, to produce models supporting public participation
To develop the steps of building disaster resilient communities, to produce alternatives, to developmodels for implementation
In the process of risk management, to develop common language, to disseminate strategies usingwritten and oral techniques
